The Future Of Beale Street Bears.

On a slow news day here in the Bluff City, I decided I should give my faithful readers some insight as to the direction of this site.  All six of you reading this right now need not be alarmed, we aren’t going away once this season ends.  Far from it, actually.  I have some awfully big, ambitions ideas for us, I just hope that you’re ready for them.

Obviously, there will be no shortage of content during the playoffs, as there are games every night and are relevant to anyone who’s even kind of a basketball fan.  This is the easy part.

Even after the Grizzlies’ season ends, we’ll still track all of the games,  and provide some feedback on here.  So whether you’re a die-hard, homeristic Grizzlies fans who believes that Memphis won’t lose again this postseason, worry not, we’ll have coverage of every game on here.

If you’re a more pessimistic sort (and let’s face it, after game 1 of the Clippers series I can’t blame you if you are) then we’ll still have stuff going up on here every day.

This summer will also feature the Olympic Men’s Basketball team defending their 2008 gold medal in London at the 2012 Olympic games.  The team likely won’t feature any of your Memphis Grizzlies, but it will be nice to be able to come together and cheer for all of the great players in our game and to be working toward one common goal… Yes, even Kobe Bryant and LeBron James.

Also during the summer, I intend on describing Grizzlies owner Michael Heisley’s “Three-Year Plan” in great, painstaking detail.  If you’re unfamiliar with that speech, I’ll refresh your memory:

"“We’re committed to putting a contending team on the floor, and the target is three years. I’m looking for — three years from today Memphis to have a team than contends and then turning that team into a team that competes for championships.”"

Heisley would go on to say that any moves that they made would have that championship goal in mind.  We here at Beale Street Bears are going to delve into that a little further.  Sure, it sounds good on paper, but was every move that they made as a front office made with that goal in mind? You’d be surprised.

I know what you’re probably thinking.  You’re probably saying to yourself right now that Ol’ Chuck has lost faith, that game 1 has sent me into a negative, downward spiral.  Not true.  Not at all, in fact.  Sometimes teams have to get kicked in the teeth and hit rock bottom before they can bounce back.

As Tyler Durden, creator of Fight Club once said, “It’s only after we’ve lost everything that we’re free to do anything.”  Game 2 will be crucial and I think the Grizzlies will be up to the task.
