Best Teammate Award and Marc Gasol

Tonight the NBA is giving out its first ever “Best Teammate” award. There’s a lot of speculation over what qualifies one as the “best teammate,” and there are candidates from all over the league.

It is hard, however, as a Grizzlies fan, not to se our own Marc Gasol as the ideal candidate for the award. He’s the best passing big man in the league, but he’s always enough of a scoring threat to punish anyone who doesn’t body him up to stop the pass.

As such, he runs the offense from the elbow and is as true a triple threat as the come, which leaves the rest of his teammates room to work.

Marc plays not with himself in mind, but with the hope that everything he does improves the play of his team and his teammates.

And none of that even touches on his DPOY defense, which creates the space and dynamics that allow the rest of the team to rotate and double as freely and dominantly as they do.

If that isn’t the “best teammate,” I dunno what is; even the brilliant Zach Lowe of Grantland has said that Marc would be his first choice as teammate.

If it was you, who would you give the “best teammate” award to?
