The Memphis Grizzlies’ coaching search drags on. And now that we’re midway through June, the heat is on. We need a head coach. Having one is like a thing in the NBA, or something.
Potential candidates include Chicago Bulls‘ assistant Ed Pinckney, Indiana Pacers‘ assistant Brian Shaw, reigning Coach of the Year George Karl, our own Dave Joerger and former Phoenix Suns head-coach Alvin Gentry; of which Gentry has surprisingly emerged a front-runner.
Alvin Gentry will meet with Yahoo! Sports.officials to discuss their head-coaching opening for the second time on Thursday in Memphis, league sources told
The Grizz were reportedly “extremely impressed” with Gentry in his initial interview.
Grizzlies met yesterday with former Suns coach Alvin Gentry about head coaching vacancy and came away extremely impressed, source says.

It would be an interesting move to hire Gentry, to say the least. As he’s a coach that has only made it out of the first-round once and he’s not exactly revered as a defensive mind. If we’re being honest, his career has mostly consisted of mediocrity and steep declines.
Would I hate the hiring? No. But would it make me only further question the decision making from the Grizzlies front office? You bet your ass it would.
