The Grizzlies have reportedly traded backup big man Darrell Arthur and the 55th pick of the Draft for Nuggets center Kosta Koufos.

For the Grizzlies, this is a fantastic trade. Getting rid of Arthur frees up backup big man Ed Davis for a bigger spot as the four, and Davis was more efficient all year in limited minutes than Arthur.
Similarly, Koufos fills a wonderful hole in the Grizzlies’ lineup. The things the Grizz needed were clear: a better backup big man, and three point shooting. More than anything, the Grizz needed their backup big man to just hold the floor defensively until Marc can get back on the floor. That simple.
Koufos can do that. Koufos can do that, and then some.
Giving up the 55th pick doesn’t do much against the Grizz — that pick probably wasn’t going to make a big difference at that point. The 41st is still available, where hopefully Memphis can get a 3-point ace to fill the last hole in their roster.
So, rejoice guys. Ed Davis is getting playing time, and the backups have life. Improvements are being made.
