Davis was given a flagrant foul 2 and ejected for the incident, which occurred with 8:42 remaining in the Rockets’ 92-73 preseason victory over the Grizzlies on Friday.
I watched that game on NBA LeaguePass with the Houston broadcast and Rockets announcers. Their take was that Davis’ play never looked like a “basketball play” which is why he was ejected.
I think that is a fair assessment. While it looked like kind of a lazy play, Davis never got his hands up high enough to go after the ball, basically coming down with his forearms across the forehead and the bridge of the nose.

And you thought the only really bad thing that could result from a preseason game was an injury. Tell that to Ed Davis’ wallet. Considering the NBA recently suspended Nate Robinson and Markieff Morris for unnecessary contact this past week, it’s safe to say Ed got off easy just being fined.
…or, maybe Ed Davis was expecting a big payday from the Grizzlies by tomorrow?
