Grizzlies beat writer Ronald Tillery broke the news last night that Quincy Pondexter will sign a 4-year contract extension worth $14 million before the Thursday deadline. Tillery also mentioned that Ed Davis is unlikely to reach an agreement in time, and thus will become an unrestricted free agent next summer.

Pondexter netted 13 points and dished 3 assists in the Grizz season opener last night, and is coming off a career year in 2012-13 that culminated in a dominant (if futile) Western Conference Finals performance. Q-Pon’s stock has risen every year he’s been in the league, and his win share has jumped dramatically for a bench player. An extension seems like a wise investment — if Quincy has another banner year this season, he will be highly sought after next summer.

Pondexter came to Memphis in 2011 from the (then) New Orleans Hornets, in a trade that also included Grievis Vasquez.

Let Ed Davis walk….not worth investing the time or money in him. There was a reason Coach Hollins didn’t play him.

I have been saying for months, especially every time I read an article stating that the Grizzlies need to hurry up and extend Ed Davis, that it is QPon, not Davis, that should be extended.

      Wrap him up!
