The Grizzlies have a rather important game tonight with the division rival Dallas Mavericks coming to town. What makes this game important in addition to it being a divisional game is the fact that the Mavericks are 1 game up on the Grizzlies in the Western Conference standings, possessing the #8 seed in the Western Conference.
While it may seem like just another mid-winter NBA game, this game has importance due to the magnitude that games like this mean overall. If the Grizzlies want to get a good seed in the playoffs, or even just make the playoffs, they need to win games like this where they are (a) at home and (b) facing a team just ahead of them in the standings. Even though they’ll be without Mike Conley tonight, who is out for about a week with his ankle sprain, the Grizzlies still should get this done since they are at home and have both Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph healthy. If the Grizzlies can win an important game like this without Mike Conley, their confidence should definitely get a good boost, and give them full confidence to make a serious run in the playoffs once they get back to full strength.
