The Memphis Grizzlies picked up their 40th win of the season with a 96-86 win over the Utah Jazz. Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol combined for 41 points as the Grizzlies narrowly escaped with the victory.
Up 74-63 at the start of the 4th quarter, things were looking good for the Grizzlies. Utah then used a 21-10 run to tie the game 84-84 with 5:39 left in the quarter. The Grizzlies held the Jazz to two points the remainder of the game and held on for a 96-86 win.
The win marked the 14th consecutive game the Grizzlies held the Jazz to under 100 points. The longest such streak against any opponent the Jazz have faced. The win was also the 8th consecutive for the Grizzlies at FedEx Forum.
Gordon Hayward and rookie PG Trey Burke led the Jazz with 16 points each. Backup PG Alec Burks also added 16 points off the bench for the Jazz which have now lost 11 of 12.
Memphis again was dominant in the paint outscoring Utah 54-40. The Grizzlies defense was stifling in the 1st half holding Utah to under 32% shooting and allowing 32 points. Utah now falls to 0-8 on the road against Southwest Division opponents.
The Grizzlies move to 40-27 on the season and into a tie for 7th in the West with Dallas who fell to Minnesota 123-122 in OT tonight. This marks the 5th straight season the Grizzlies have won 40 games. The Grizzlies have a tough back to back this weekend as they head to Miami Friday Night and turn around to face Indiana on Saturday back in Memphis.
