Former Grizzly Shane Battier Retires

Shane Battier retired Sunday night after the Heat’s loss in the NBA Finals.  Battier had hinted that this would probably be his last season, and losing to the Spurs sealed the deal.

“I’ve given everything I can to the game and I don’t have any more to give,” Battier said after logging 11 minutes with one steal, one turnover and one last tangle in the paint (with Spurs guard Manu Ginobili)... “And I’m OK with it.”

Battier was drafted by the Grizzlies out of Duke with the 6th pick in the 2001 NBA draft.  He totaled up six seasons with the club.  Battier was always known for his defense and ability to guard just about anybody on the court.  Given his personality and knowledge of the game, he will continue his career as an announcer of ESPN.
