Joel Embiid, a top prospect in the upcoming NBA Draft, will undergo surgery on his foot on Friday. Embiid has been widely predicted as being the number one overall pick. This may affect his draft stock, but to what extent remains to be seen. Adrian Wojnarowski reports:
Given the situation, the Cleveland Cavaliers, who own the number one pick, are presumably reevaluating choosing Embiid. This could change the way that the entire first round plays out, and even impact trades before the draft as well.
The Grizzlies on the other hand, aren’t at a high enough pick to snag Embiid, but who other teams will draft might change if he slides. This could lead to other teams either trading up or down.
Memphis hold the 22nd pick in the draft and will probably wait to see what happens with the Embiid injury before making any moves.
