Troy Daniels was the undrafted playoff hero for the Houston Rockets last year and he is currently a free agent. The Grizzlies are presumably looking into him due to his great perimeter shooting as well as his potential upside as he progresses in his career. According to RealGM:
The Houston Rockets would like to re-sign Troy Daniels, but he’s also receiving interest from the Dallas Mavericks, San Antonio Spurs, Memphis Grizzlies and New Orleans Pelicans, according to sources that spoke with RealGM.
Signing Troy Daniels would put five shooting guards on the roster with Tony Allen, Courtney Lee, Jamaal Franklin, and the recently drafted Jordan Adams. Franklin is more than likely going to end up in the D-league this year, but it depends on whether or not Memphis adds even more depth at shooting guard. The Grizzlies’ first and foremost need is definitely not at shooting guard, and it could even be argued that it’s the position that they don’t need to address any further this off-season. Targeting Daniels could mean that they might be sending one of their current shooting guards in a trade that would involve moving veteran forward Tayshaun Prince. Daniels probably won’t command as large of a contract as other free agent shooting guards due to his lack of regular season experience.
