Is Marion still in play?
Shawn Marion is being hotly pursued by both the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Indiana Pacers, but he is still arranging meetings with other teams according to reports:
Shawn Marion, the best unrestricted free agent on the market, has received inquries from the Indiana Pacers and a strong push on a potential deal with the franchise, a league source told RealGM.
Marion spent a half-day in Cleveland to meet with the Cavaliers on Monday, and he remains intrigued about the opportunity to join LeBron James and possibly Kevin Love – even on a veteran-minimum contract.
Marion has since left Cleveland and is scheduling further meetings with NBA teams, a source said.
Marion would be a great addition to this Memphis team, and there’s no doubt that he’d help out at the small forward spot. Although the Pacers are in dire need of finding a player to fill the injured Paul George‘s shoes, and Marion might end up being that player. The Pacers and Cavs seem to be the front-runners, but the fact that Marion is still scheduling meetings with other teams means that nothing is set in stone.
One advantage that the Grizzlies have is that they could probably offer Marion the most playing time, which would be a good selling point should they attempt to sign him. Marion might not even be on Memphis’ radar, but he would be a very good fit for this team.
Is Shawn Marion still an option? Well, he’s still a free agent, so anything is possible. It depends if the Grizzlies feel they need to add another veteran to further push this team into contention. It also depends on what Marion’s priorities are in terms of money, contention, and location. At the very least, hopefully Memphis is giving Marion a look.
