Grizzlies reportedly interested in Joe Ingles

Grizzlies looking at Joe Ingles?

The Memphis Grizzlies are interested in point forward Joe Ingles according to report:

Seven to eight NBA teams have expressed interest in Joe Ingles.

Ingles has a strong possibility to sign in the NBA after a career overseas. He is unlikely to sign with the Philadelphia 76ers despite the connection to Brett Brown.

Ingles is playing with Australia in the World Cup.

RealGM reported last offseason that the Indiana Pacers, Milwaukee Bucks, Memphis Grizzlies and Los Angeles Clippers were showing interest in Ingles.

The Grizzlies have expressed interest for Ingles in the past, but it’s hard to say if they still do.

Ingles is a 6’8” Australian point forward, who has been playing exceptionally well in this year’s FIBA tournament.  This has only furthered teams interest in the 26 year old, as he has garnered NBA attention before.

Ingles would be an especially good fit for Memphis due to his past history with Marc Gasol.  According to ESPN’s Marc Stein:

The Memphis Grizzlies are another team that has expressed interest in Ingles in the past. Ingles played at Barcelona with Grizzlies star center Marc Gasol, who is widely known to be one of Ingles’ biggest fans.

The Grizzlies also just waived Jamaal Franklin on Sunday to create a little more roster room, but Memphis has to keep an eye on where it is in relation to luxury-tax territory. The Griz, at present, are $1.2 million under the tax line. Ingles would cost them $915,000 next season, which would obviously put them in tax range.

Things could be complicated by the fact that Memphis just signed rookie guard Luke Hancock, but signing another player is still a possibility.

We’ll more than likely have to wait until the FIBA World Cup is over to see any activity regarding Ingles, but you never know, Memphis might find a way to strike a deal.
