Today, the Memphis Grizzlies and their home facility–the FedEx Forum–announced that they are teaming up with Memphis International Airport.

The Memphis Grizzlies have gained momentum as they push into the 2015 NBA Playoffs this upcoming Sunday. To create even more excitement amongst the city of Memphis, the club announced they have sealed a new partnership. With whom you ask? The Memphis International Airport. A major cog that will assist in marketing our beloved Grizzly squad!

Although Grizzlies’ lead defenseman Tony Allen has been selected as the spokesperson for the new connection–which was without a doubt an excellent choice–it could have also been fitting to make Vince Carter the spokesperson. Why? VC has been resembling the airport with his airplane actions after he drains three after three for the Memphis Grizzlies! [Ed. Note: As seen in this article’s featured image.]

With all laughter aside, here is a tweet by Allen describing his appreciation for being named spokesperson of the partnership.

Additionally, the Memphis Grizzlies posted the official announcement on their website and it reads as follows:

"The Memphis Grizzlies and FedExForum today announced a new partnership with the Memphis International Airport has ‘taken off’ and is set to provide support of the airport’s rebranding and re-modernization efforts, complete with community outreach, fun promotions and one of Memphis’ favorite high-fliers, Grizzlies guard Tony Allen, serving as the official spokesperson.“I know a little something about putting in hard work to build a better, finished product,” said Grizzlies guard and Memphis International Spokesperson Tony Allen. “The airport, like basketball, has no offseason and never stops grinding. So, I’m happy to lend my voice to Memphis International as they enter this new phase of development to bring an improved facility to Memphis.”"

"“Very few things are as critical to the growth and development of our city as our airport,” said Grizzlies President of Business Operations Jason Wexler. “We are proud to partner with Memphis International and help this vital civic institution push forward into a new era.”One promotion planned throughout the partnership will take Grizz Nation to new heights and, offer fans the opportunity to “Take Off With the Grizzlies,” where fans will have the chance to win airline tickets and Grizzlies tickets to select road games. The Memphis Airport recently entered their own phase of “Grit” and “Grind” as they began a concourse modernization project that includes consolidating airline, food and beverage, and retail concessions as well as improvements that include additional moving walkways, wider corridors, larger boarding areas, higher ceilings and increased natural lighting.Scott Brockman, MSCAA President and CEO, said, “We are in the midst of reinventing the Memphis International Airport. Rather than being one airline’s hub, we are now Memphis’s hub, and we need MEM to be a reflection of our great city. What better way to do that than to partner with Tony Allen and the Memphis Grizzlies?”"
