‘Beale Street Bears’ takes a look at JaMychal Green’s promising year with the Memphis Grizzlies and provides grades for his performance.

The Memphis Grizzlies had several youngsters that they rarely used this season, including forward JaMychal Green.

You could make the argument that the Grizzlies should have used their youth more to rest the starters and the older stars on the roster while building for the future. Plus, the young guys on the team flat-out have a ton of potential that needs to be unleashed. JaMychal fits that description.

Didn’t get to see as much as you wanted of JaMyke? Here is a YouTube video full of highlights from one of his performances in a Grizzlies’ uniform in the middle of March. It will show you things that we can expect from Green in the 2015-16 season, assuming he returns to Memphis.

He is a big body that does not shy away from banging down in the paint. He is full of energy and has a natural knack for grabbing offensive rebounds. This sounds like a perfect fit with the Memphis Grizzlies, doesn’t it? He can also score in a variety ways off of midrange jumpers–turnarounds, step-backs, etc.

I really believe Green will hang onto his roster spot this summer and will make a name for himself in training camp and preseason. Teams nowadays try to cut costs wherever they can, and even though JaMychal has been signed to a very minimal NBA contract, I fully believe that he has shown enough promise to warrant his stay for the next season and perhaps longer.

The best is yet to come from JaMychal Green for the Memphis Grizzlies. He is a player that is clearly all-in. That is what is needed in order to reach a championship.

Though he did not receive a lot of opportunities for minutes in the NBA with the Grizz this season, ‘Beale Street Bears‘ has assessed his performance in the 2014-15 season. How did we grade him? Take a look directly below.

Ben Parker, Staff Writer

Grade: N/A

Assessment: “JaMychal Green averaged only 2.7 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 0.2 blocks per game last season. In five playoff games, he averaged 1.6 minutes per game and produced a grand total of 2 points, 3 rebounds, 1 steal, and 1 block. It’s hard to give him a grade since he didn’t really get a chance to show what he can do given that he was buried on the bench behind Marc Gasol, Zach Randolph, Kosta Koufos, and Jon Leuer. I think the only fair grade to give JaMychal Green is NA or “Not Applicable.” He simply didn’t do enough to get a grade. This doesn’t mean he did poorly. It just means the sample size on his play was way too small to give him a fair grade.”

Grade: “I” for “Incomplete”

Assessment: “I grade JaMychal Green’s 2014-15 season as ‘incomplete.’ This is not a knock on JaMyke, but rather a hope for a greater look of the young man. I really liked what I saw this season from him and the Grizzlies’ youth, but Head Coach Dave Joerger just did not give the youngsters very many opportunities to showcase what they bring to the team. I can tell that Green is an energy guy and he is not afraid to be aggressive or to create contact which is a rarity nowadays in a softening league. He even has a bit of a shooting touch, which I was not exactly expecting. I applaud him for staying ready, especially in the game versus the Wizards on national TV, where he tallied 13 points. I expect more of the same along with a major minutes increase for Green next season.”

Grizz Nation, how do you feel about what JaMyke brings to the table? Do you agree that he should remain a key part of the Grizzlies’ youthful future?

You can follow JaMychal Green on his personal Twitter account, which can be found by looking here. Today, June 21st, is his birthday, so send him some birthday shouts!
