Even though he was once considered the Memphis Grizzlies’ “midseason trade acquisition,” Toney Douglas has been replaced with young 2-guard Wayne Selden.

After the trade deadline, the Memphis Grizzlies seemed satisfied with their roster. Toney Douglas filled in admirably behind Conley. Brandan Wright and Chandler Parsons were getting healthier. Then, two of the three went wrong. After losing his spot to Andrew Harrison, the Grizzlies released Toney Douglas for shooting guard Wayne Selden.

(If this isn’t a Woj Bomb, then is this a “Sham-Wow” or something. Really need a technical term for breaking news from Shams.)

Time with Iowa Energy

Wayne Selden should be a familiar face to Grizzly diehards. He was on this season’s training camp roster but didn’t make the final cut.

Selden was picked up by the Memphis Grizzlies’ D-League affiliate, the Iowa Energy, and has excelled. He leads the team in scoring (18.5 points) and has shot 34.9 percent from downtown on 6.2 attempts per game.

Going into last season’s draft, scouts had this to say about Selden:

"That continued improvement from three-point range is key for Selden’s draft stock, as the intrigue surrounding him begins with his potential as a three-and-D wing. Locking up and developing a 3-and-D wing is wise as the Grizzlies look to transition towards a more modern system.
