As the former Dallas Cowboys’ quarterback Tony Romo enjoys retirement, he’s taken up basketball. The Memphis Grizzlies can’t let the new Maverick go off.

The Memphis Grizzlies have a tendency to let role players explode for career nights against them. Let’s take a friendly trip down Memory Lane to see which unsung heroes have wrecked them:

  • Doug McDermott
  • Otto Porter
  • Sam Dekker
  • Taurean Prince
  • Solomon Hill
  • Austin Rivers

Okay, I have to stop there. Watching Austin Rivers go off against the Grizzlies was way too depressing. Now, the Grizz have a new guy that could join the list: Tony Romo. Yep, the former Dallas Cowboy quarterback has suited up for the Mavericks and is ready to take some ankles.

He surprisingly has moves on the perimeter, adding Devin Harris to the list of ankles he’s taken:

If he’s unleashed in this game, Wade Baldwin, Andrew Harrison or Mike Conley could all fall victim to Romo’s icy dribbling.

His mid-range game may rival only the likes of Westbrook, Kawhi and Beno Udrih – the deadliest shooters from that range:

If the Grizzlies leave him open, you best believe Romo will be getting buckets.

Unfortunately, in all seriousness, Romo won’t be playing. The Mavericks signed DeAndre Liggins to officially occupy the final roster spot, making Romo inactive.

If only we could’ve witnessed a Conley and Romo matchup …

Matchup to Watch

Wade Baldwin vs. Yogi Ferrell

As the regular season draws to a close, expect both teams to unleash the young guys. The Memphis Grizzlies are resting and looking forward to postseason play. On the other end, the Mavericks can’t risk injuries to their core (Dirk, Harrison Barnes and Nerlens Noel).

Wade Baldwin and Yogi Ferrell may be the most fascinating matchup to watch. One is a first-round pick that has been underwhelming this season. The other was undrafted and has been a surprising feel-good story this season.

As many fans may be comparing the two, Baldwin must have a good outing in this one. It’ll more than likely be his last appearance of the season. A solid performance could instill some confidence in both him and a fanbase that’s impatiently waiting for results.
