Did you think basketball was really over? Check again. Wade Baldwin, Deyonta Davis and the Memphis Grizzlies are set for Summer League basketball.

For the first time in awhile, the Memphis Grizzlies actually have some intriguing young talent. While he didn’t show it this year, Wade Baldwin has the tools to become a solid NBA player due to his elite athleticism and size. Deyonta Davis has received high praise from the team’s veterans. Jarell Martin is a combo forward mismatch as he can physically bully small forwards, and he’s quick enough to blow past power forwards. Wayne Selden has the athleticism and shooting touch to become a quality 3-and-D wing. Now, this summer, we have the chance to see if they could further develop their games so that they could become regular NBA contributors.

Wade Baldwin, Deyonta Davis, Wayne Selden, Jarell Martin and Rade Zagorac (the 35th pick in the 2016 NBA draft) will all compete in this year’s Summer League in Las Vegas.

Schedule

The Memphis Grizzlies will play three preliminary games before the tournament, and they will air on ESPN or NBA TV. Their play in these three games will determine their seed in the tournament:

  1. July 8th, vs. Washington, 3:00 PM CT
  2. July 9th, vs. Sacramento, 9:00 PM CT
  3. July 11th, vs. Utah, 3:30 PM CT

The tournament will start on July 12th, and the championship game will be played on July 17th.

Outlook

The rest of the roster will be set after Thursday’s draft, but it should still be an interesting Summer League for the current Grizzly players. Can Wade Baldwin prove that he can actually become an NBA point guard? Could Jarell Martin show why he’s deserving of a permanent rotational spot? Will Deyonta Davis’ play make Brandan Wright expandable? Could Wayne Selden carry his momentum from the postseason into the Summer League? Who is the real Rade Zagorac?
