Wayne Selden put up another big-time Summer League performance for a Memphis Grizzlies win. Nothing different for the former Jayhawk.

As the Summer League playoffs begin, the Memphis Grizzlies have been rolling. After going 3-0 in pool play, they received a first-round bye. In each game, there was some bright spot (see: Wayne Selden and Dillon Brooks). In their first playoff game, Wayne Selden put on another stellar performance.

Selden scored 33 points on 10-17 (3-8 from downtown) from the field. In addition, he converted on 10 of his 11 free throw attempts. He showed the ability to score in a variety of ways in this game. He hit the deep-ball, got to the line, attacked the basket and had this vicious put-back dunk on this year’s number 4 pick – and former Jayhawk – Josh Jackson:

Throughout the Summer League, Selden has proven to be worthy of regular NBA minutes. As Pete Pranica has said, “he’s a man among boys.” His ability to score the basketball in a variety of ways and his terrorizing defensive potential should force him into the rotation this season.

Other Takeaways

  • Wade Baldwin showed surprising efficiency. He scored 21 points, connecting on eight of his eleven shot attempts, and hauled in seven rebounds. More importantly, he only turned the ball over twice. Performances likes this will help Baldwin solidify the backup point guard position.
  • Deyonta Davis finally flashed some offensive potential, scoring 16 points and making seven of his eight field goal attempts. In order to land a rotation spot, he has to stay consistent on defense and show some offense.
  • Dillon Brooks didn’t score like he did last game. He missed eight shots and only scored seven points.
