The Memphis Grizzlies have officially signed Dillon Brooks, the 45th overall pick in this year’s draft. What does this mean for this cluttered roster?

Now that the Summer League is over, the Memphis Grizzlies have to continue building this roster for the present and the future. They took a step in the right direction when they inked Dillon Brooks to a three-year deal:

In this year’s Summer League, the former PAC-12 Player of the Year averaged 12.2 points, 3.7 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.5 steals. He was just a hooper: making the right passes, playing hard on every possession and doing what he can to will his team to victory. He can also score from downtown, at the rim, off the dribble and at the line.

The Grizzlies are surely making up for dropping talented wing Troy Williams by acquiring Wayne Selden and Dillon Brooks. Both have shown the potential to be contributors next season and down the road. Selden and Brooks exhibit the versatile qualities of the modern-day NBA wing. They can shoot the ball well, score in a variety of ways and play hard-nosed defense.

Now that the Grizzlies officially signed Brooks, they have 16 players on the roster – not including restricted free agent JaMychal Green and fellow second-round pick Ivan Rabb. If – or when – they sign them, they’ll have 18 players going into training camp, leaving them in a pickle.

Obviously, they shouldn’t let Brooks walk because of his contract and his Summer League performance. However, it still leaves them with plenty of questions. Do they trade James Ennis or Troy Daniels to free up minutes for Brooks? Will they give up on Baldwin or Harrison for Chalmers? Is the “Jarell Martin Experiment” done?

We’ll continue trying to answer these questions leading up to training camp – or the next Shams or Woj bombs.

For now, be excited about the Dillon Brooks pickup. The dude can play.
