James Johnson was arrested earlier in June on domestic violence charges, and as of yesterday the charges have been dropped. According to myFOX Memphis:
"Memphis Grizzles unrestricted free agent James Johnson’s domestic assault case was dismissed Monday after his wife did not show up to court.A Shelby County District Attorney spokesman said even though the case was dismissed at this stage, a county grand jury could still be presented the case for indictment. The DA’s office said state prosecutors will make that decision at a later date."
Johnson is currently a free agent and it looked as if this case would keep the Grizzlies from re-signing him next season. With the charges being dropped it might possibly open the door for Memphis or another team to bring him in on a cheap contract. Johnson was a nice pickup last season as he averaged 7.4 points per game in limited minutes. Memphis might not bring him back next season regardless of the charges, especially since re-signing Mike Miller is higher on their list of priorities.
