Grizzlies continue their winning streak of 4-0 while defeating the New Orleans Pelicans 93-81. All five Grizzlies starters were in double figures and 3 starters had double-doubles. Marc Gasol led the Grizzlies with 16 points, 11 rebounds and 3 blocks. Zach Randolph recorded his 4 straight double double with 15 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals. Tony Allen added 12 points and 11 rebounds. Mike Conley ended up with 11 points, 5 assists and 2 steals. And the man of the match was Tayshaun Prince who scored 14 points and 5 rebounds.

Tyreke Evans lead all scorers with 21 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Anthony Davis who was in foul trouble early ended up with only 14 points, 8 rebounds and only 1 block.

For the game Grizzlies shot 40% percent from the field while the Pelicans only shot 33.7 %.

This game was reminiscent of the awful Saturday game against the Hornets we all witnessed. Oh wait this team used to be the Hornets too. Oh boy.

We saw ill-advised shots from the 2nd unit for Grizzlies in the 2nd quarter. I really don’t understand why the offense was not going through Marc Gasol at that point. Beno seemed like he was playing hero ball and tried to do too much. Thankfully, he settled down and ended up with 9 points and 4 assists for the game.

Grizzlies went into half time 40-33

Going into the half the Pelicans only shot an abysmal 27.7% from the field; they were 13/27 in the first half. Grizzlies shot 40% and were 15/37.

Tyreke Evans led all scorers with 11 and Zach Randolph has 9 points.

Early in the 3rd, Pelicans went on a 12 to 2 run and took the lead. Late in the 3rd, Grizzlies scored 12 straight and led by 12. Surprisingly, Anthony Davis only had 8 points, 8 rebounds and just 1 block through 3 quarters.

This was some horrible basketball to watch for both teams!! On one sequence late in the 3rd, Mike Conley lost the ball to Tyreke Evans. Evans had a break away and was all alone at the basket and missed a lay-up. Quincy Pondexter grabbed the rebound and Vince Carter scored a 3 on the other end.

The Grizzlies pulled away in the 4th quarter and maintained the lead for good.

Game tidbits

1) Free throw shooting continues to be a problem for the Grizzlies. Grizzlies left 10 points on the board.

2) Jordan Adams entered his first regular season NBA game subbing for Mike Conley.

3) Kosta Koufos and Jon Leuer continue to have trouble playing good basketball. They didn’t even see the floor in the 2nd half.

4) Grizzlies bench outscored the opposing bench for the first time this season 25-19.

5) Grizzlies scored 6 fast break points while the Pelicans only scored 2.

Grizzlies travel to Phoenix to take on the Suns on Wednesday at 8pm. Hopefully, that will be better game for the Grizzlies both offensively and defensively.
