The Memphis Grizzlies are close to be heading into the 2015 NBA All-Star Weekend with an excellent record. How does their February schedule favor them?

The Grizzlies are currently sitting at 35-12 on the season, which places them in second place in the Western Conference–three games behind Golden State and 2.5 games ahead of the Clippers. Overall, Memphis owns the third-best record in the entire NBA, with the Atlanta Hawks (40-8) being the only team with a better record than the Grizzlies up to this point.

Statistically as a team, as of February 1st, the Grizzlies are the top team in the entire NBA in points allowed per game (96.0). They are also eighth in field goal percentage (46%), ninth in field goal percentage allowed (44%), and 13th in team scoring (101.3 PPG). The Grizzlies’ defense is taking over games while the offense is starting to flourish. But that is not all.

Zach Randolph has 12 consecutive double-doubles for the Grizzlies–a streak that is surely not quite over yet as we head into February. Z-Bo plays great against the small, yet quick and athletic lineup of the Phoenix Suns–Memphis’ next opponent on the calendar.

  • February will also include the first Grizzlies’ action for newcomer JaMychal Green, which could be as soon as February 2nd (Monday) against Phoenix. He is a young talent that adds depth to the team that could definitely become a long-term player for the Grizzlies. Time will tell.

The 2015 NBA All-Star Weekend, beginning on February 13th, will feature Grizzlies’ star center Marc Gasol participating on Sunday’s main event game–facing off at the starting center position against his brother Pau Gasol, a former member of the Grizzlies. This event will surely give Marc Gasol and the Grizzlies some well-deserved national attention.

This month will provide many more opportunities for the Grizzlies to continue their “grit-‘n’-grind” style of play while integrating Jeff Green into the offense even more. Aside from Jeff Green, the Grizzlies will play with rotations and find ways to keep their bench rolling. The Grizz bench has shown some consistency lately, which has led to the Grizzlies overpowering teams in all facets of the game.

The month of February features eight road games and only three home games for the Memphis Grizzlies. This month will be critical for the Grizzlies to achieve some impressive victories in other teams’ arenas. Below is a short breakdown of February for the Grizz.

    February’s Schedule Breakdown

    • One meeting between the Grizzlies and Hawks–in Memphis
    • Two meetings five days against the Grizzlies’ top rival (Los Angeles Clippers)
    • 4-game Western Conference road trip, with All-Star Weekend falling in-between, versus Oklahoma City, Portland, Los Angeles Clippers, and Sacramento
    • Two meetings against the Minnesota Timberwolves

While it is unlikely, the Grizzlies have an excellent shot at being the winner in each of the 11 contests this month.

After playing the OKC Thunder, Memphis will have a break between the 11th and 22nd due to All-Star festivities. With a few tough road games looming after the break, the Grizzlies must be energized and on top of their games so they do not have a hiccup in the road of their chase for first place.

    Go Grizz!
