A couple weeks have went by following the Memphis Grizzlies’ postseason exit, so what is center Marc Gasol saying about his impending free-agency decision?
The most important issue of the offseason on the Memphis Grizzlies’ plate is not the NBA Draft, but rather free-agency. Their NBA All-Star center, Marc Gasol, has the potential to leave the team and take his talents elsewhere–maybe even to the San Antonio Spurs, a great rival of the Grizz, as RealGM reports (below).
"Marc Gasol is expected to be pursued in free agency by the San Antonio Spurs.Gasol’s free agency plans have remained a mystery and the common expectation has been he would re-sign with the Memphis Grizzlies.“I’m a free agent, but I still have not raised anything,” said Gasol of his future. “In the next few weeks, I will begin to speak with different franchises. My brother has not advised me about the different possibilities, but the decision will be complicated. My family spends time in Memphis and has even worked in the Saint Jude Hospital.”“San Antonio is an example franchise and I’ve always admired Tim Duncan,” said Gasol. “But we’ll see in the summer.”The Spurs can create maximum contract cap space."
What is Big Spain’s current mood about free-agency? Has he dropped any other implications of his future decision?
The answers, shared by HoopsHype, to these questions can be found directly below.
"Marc Gasol: “I have not thought about changing teams. Everybody knows about the relationship between Memphis and all my family. It’s special and it has left a mark on us. You have to put everything in the balance. The decision will be good because I will make it good.”"
This is not the first time we have heard the “the decision will be good because I will make it good” line Marc Gasol since the Grizzlies’ offseason began. Of course Marc played high school basketball in Memphis once his brother, Pau Gasol, came from Spain to play for the Memphis Grizzlies. The Gasol family has become a component of the city of Memphis. All signs point to Big Spain staying with the Grizz for additional years and seasons, but is that what he means by “I will make it good?”

That is what all of Grizz Nation is hoping–that Marc Gasol means that he will be staying with the Grizzlies in Memphis when he says “I will make it good.” All we can do for now is attempt to read into his quotes. It truly seems as if he plans to stay in Memphis, with the Grizzlies, for a long time, but the NBA is a business, so what will he ultimately decide?
We should find out once the month of July arrives.
Marc finished the 2014-15 season with averages of 17.4 points (career-high), 6.4 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 1.6 blocks, and nearly one steal per game. He did all of this while shooting 49.4% from the field and 79.5% at the charity stripe. While being named to the 2015 NBA All-Star Game to represent the Grizzlies on the Western Conference team, he became the first Grizz player to ever be named as a starter in the annual game.
