Have the Memphis Grizzlies made a Draft promise to LSU’s Jarell Martin?

There are rumblings surrounding the Memphis Grizzlies and their lone selection in the 2015 NBA Draft, which takes place this upcoming Thursday evening.

The news?

The Memphis Grizzlies MIGHT have made a guarantee to guard/forward Jarell Martin (LSU) for the 25th overall selection in the NBA Draft. However, will he still be on the board when the Grizz receive their opportunity on the clock? Other teams, such as the Milwaukee Bucks (17th overall selection), have expressed their infatuation with Martin lately. Another team not named Memphis–but perhaps Milwaukee–has also handed down a draft promise to Martin.

Check out what Chip Williams of “Grizzly Bear Blues” and Cam Rose of “901 Grizz” had to say about this latest circulation of excitement within Grizz Nation.

Or could this all be smoke signals? Surely it means something of significance.

With just a couple days until Draft Day, there is a lot of deciphering to do when determining what is fact and what is fiction in the headlines. Some NBA teams will give players promises at a certain pick number. Is Martin really the Memphis Grizzlies’ guy? If so, will they have to trade up to gain higher position in order to select him? Or will they resort to next-best available?

If you take a look at some workout videos and highlight reels of Jarell’s, it is easy to see that the increased hype for him as of late is necessary. Although preliminary, he could very well be the biggest steal of this draft class. That is saying a lot because this entire class is extremely raw talent-wise and much of the value within all prospects of this crop revolves solely around POTENTIAL.

If the Memphis Grizzlies do wind up with Jarell Martin, one has to think that the club will certainly look for a trade partner to take on the contract of Jeff Green. Martin is another small forward/power forward combo player. He is 6’9″ in height while weighing in at 239 pounds. He is exceptionally athletic and he is as aggressive as they come. He battles on the boards as well as anyone in this class–especially for his stature. The more tape that is provided of this guy, the more his stock becomes on the rise.
