Memphis Redbirds to ‘Grit & Grind’ with Allen, Grizzlies

Tony Allen and the Memphis Grizzlies will be teaming up with the Memphis Redbirds baseball team to host a special Grizz-themed “Grit & Grind Night.”

The Memphis Grizzlies are teaming up with another professional sports team in the 901–Minor League Baseball’s Memphis Redbirds.

The Redbirds, located just a few blocks from the Grizzlies’ FedEx Forum, will be taking on the “Grit-‘N’-Grind” phrase to have a special promotional night on August 31st.

The Memphis Grizzlies have posted a full press release on their official website. It reads:

"The Memphis Grizzlies and Memphis Redbirds are proud to announce Grit & Grind Night on Monday, Aug. 31 at AutoZone Park for the Redbirds’ game against the New Orleans Zephyrs.As part of the special evening, the Redbirds will be wearing commemorative blue-and-gold Grizzlies-themed jerseys on the field. Fans can come away with a jersey by participating in a silent auction beginning when the gates open closing at the end of the sixth inning. Auction winners will be taken onto the field to receive their purchased jersey from their Redbirds player following the game. Proceeds will benefit both the Memphis Grizzlies Foundation and Redbirds Community Fund.Grizzlies guard Tony Allen will make a special appearance to meet fans at AutoZone Park. The Grindfather will sign autographs on the concourse behind home plate when gates open and throw out a ceremonial first pitch during pregame.Grizz, the Grizz Girls and the Claw Crew also will be available for photos with fans and participate in special in-game promotions and activities throughout the evening, including special section and row giveaways. Grizzlies Season Ticket Holder MVPs should keep an eye on their email inboxes for an exclusive promo code for discounted ticket prices to Grit & Grind Night.Co-branded Grizzlies-Redbirds magnet schedules featuring the Grizzlies’ upcoming 2015-16 season schedule will be distributed to 2,500 ticketed fans upon entry.Other activities include a Grizzlies selfie station and prize wheel on the concourse behind home plate. First pitch between the Redbirds and Zephyrs is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Gates open at 6 p.m."

It is only fitting that Tony Allen, the “Grindfather,” will be in attendance on this special night. It does not get much better than Memphis, good baseball, and a Grizz theme when it is late in the month of August. This will be one way to feed the Grizzlies addiction of Grizz Nation, which has been without live “G-‘n’-G” action since the early part of May.

The jerseys the Redbirds will be wearing? They are awesome. Check out this design, with thanks to the Memphis Redbirds, which features Tony Allen’s number nine.

If the NBA ever forces the Memphis Grizzlies to wear sleeved jerseys, these Redbirds uniforms may be the most appealing shirts possible. They almost look better than the Grizz uniforms currently being worn by Allen and company.
