Small Forward

The small forward position for the Memphis Grizzlies has been the most disappointing in production ever since Rudy Gay was traded.

This past season, the Grizzlies’ traded for Jeff Green from the Boston Celtics. At the time, this trade was supposed to put the Grizzlies’ over-the-top in the Western Conference.

Green had some stellar performances for Memphis before the All-Star break, and was instrumental in guiding the team to a 41-14 record.

Before the wheels fell off and the team sputtered down the stretch, Green was a reliable option at the 3 for Memphis. He brought life to the team with his emphatic dunks, was able to stretch the floor with some 3’s, and defended well.

The problem with Green is that he’s too inconsistent. At times he became very passive or put up errant shots that hurt the team.

The addition of Matt Barnes will likely take some of the pressure off of Green.  If the two of them can maintain any sort of consistency, this wing combination could be a deadly combination.
