3. Taurean Prince

Taurean Prince did not have that explosive senior year leap that Buddy Hield and Denzel Valentine made; however, that should not hurt his draft stock. Prince still displays the skills needed to be a solid 3-and-D wing at the next level, a commodity that is enticing for all general managers.

The Memphis Grizzlies did not have many young wings on their roster last year. Lance Stephenson is 25 years old but is on a team option, so his future with the team is in question. P.J. Hairston is a young free agent who likely won’t be back after struggling to find his niche in Memphis.

The other wings that received consistent playing time were Tony Allen, Matt Barnes and Vince Carter. Each is north of 30 years old (34, 35, and 39). The Memphis Grizzlies need some new blood at the wing position.

Bringing in a tough player such as Taurean Prince will keep the “Grit ‘n Grind” style alive, while adding the element of a legitimate “small ball 4” to their offense. As a 6’7″ forward with a 6’11” wingspan, he should be able to guard positions 2-4.

His 3-point shooting numbers add to his 3-and-D potential. Prince shot 36 percent from 3 last season. Because he played all four years, he can contribute to a playoff team in need of new blood.

His ability to run the floor, move off the ball, shoot, and defend should garner lots of DeMarre Carroll comparisons. David Fizdale will probably use him similarly to Carroll or Luol Deng.

Finding a legitimate 3-and-D wing like Prince at the 17th pick would be a fantastic addition for the Memphis Grizzlies both now and for the future.
