Beale Street Bears’ Memphis Grizzlies roundtable: ‘Into the Bears’ Den’
By Ian Pierno
@TheBackwardsDJ: Do the Grizz try to go after a veteran PG or add one more SG/SF to finish the roster off?
Parker Fleming (@PAKA_FLOCKA):
It depends on how training camp goes. If Wade Baldwin IV and Andrew Harrison show that they aren’t ready for regular NBA minutes, Tony Wroten may be worth keeping around. If Jordan Adams can’t rebound from his injury and Vince Carter shows his age even more, they will need a backup shooting guard. The perfect addition: Kevin Martin. Adding a veteran presence that can carry the scoring load of the bench will be relieving for the Grizzlies’ young bench.
Possible Solution: Cut Vince Carter or Jordan Adams for Kevin Martin or Tony Wroten.
Mike Parrott (@mikeparrott_):
A wing. Shooting is still paramount in Memphis even after adding two 40 percent-plus 3-point shooters and especially in this league at the moment. Memphis don’t need another point guard after giving Conley a monster contract and using its draft pick on another point guard, but what they still need is more shooting. If the team has never been higher than 20th in the league in shooting for five years, you need to keep adding until you have too much (see: Golden State Warriors). I agree with Parker in adding Kevin Martin.
Taylor Buckley (@sctaylor94):
Personally, I would like to see the Grizzlies shooting more. In today’s league you can never have too much shooting. Teams like Golden State and Cleveland both have a tremendous amount of shooting talent, which is part of the reason they have had so much success last season. Whether that shooting comes in the form of another PG or SG/SF, look for Memphis to add another player that can consistently hit the 3-point shot. To echo what Mike said, Parker is spot on, adding Kevin Martin would be an excellent pickup for the Grizzlies.
Ian Pierno (@IanPierno):
It’s not going to happen, but Lance Stephenson. When he signs somewhere, you can read something I’ve already prepared.
Jacob Collins (@jacobcollins34):
A wing. Combo Baldwin/Harrison up in the backup guard spot and allow them to develop as the season progresses. Also, it seems like a veteran point guard gets cut right around the final days before postseason rosters have to be set every year. A soft shooting wing would be a great complement to the roster in place; especially if they plan on using Parsons as a small ball four in some lineups. This would add much more flexibility to the roster.
