Into the Bears’ Den: picking NBA teams’ over/under from Vegas projections
By Ian Pierno
ORLANDO MAGIC: 36.5
Taylor Buckley: OVER. Even though trading Oladipo was a dumb move, in my opinion, I think they have enough talent to muster close to 40 wins.
Ryan Snellings: OVER. It’s not by a lot though. Getting Ibaka, Biyombo and Jeff Green should help some in the frontcourt which already features the talented Nikola Vucevic, while losing Oladipo shows they’re all in on Payton and Fournier. They’ll get closer to 40, but I think they just fall short of the eigth seed.
Parker Fleming: OVER. Ahhh, this young team had oodles of potential. Elfrid Payton, Evan Fournier, Victor Oladipo, Nikola Vucecic, Aaron Gordon and Mario Hezonja. Factor in a stretch 4-5 at the 11th pick and there’s a nice squad under Frank Vogel. Instead, they bombed it with the additions of Serge Ibaka, Bismack Biyombo and Jeff Green. They could be a 40-win team, but at the cost of damaging a young core?
Ian Pierno: OVER. In our Slack (aka Beale Street Bears after dark), Parker and I discovered we share a mutual love for Mario Hezonja. I pretty much agree with everything he just said above. Everyone talks about Philadelphia as the promising young team in the league that’ll be fun the watch, but Orlando needs to be in that discussion.
Ryan Schmitz: OVER. As Parker said, this team is young, signing some great additions and hired Frank Vogel. I wasn’t a fan of trading Oladipo, but if you didn’t think he was re-signing, maybe taking a risk on Ibaka might pay off. Magic need to win soon. They’ve been stockpiling talent for too long.
Jacob Collins: UNDER. Too many cooks in one kitchen. I like all the players on this team and I love Frank Vogel, but I have no idea how they fit together. Parker mentioned this team having a decent season but hurting the young core. I feel like that is almost a certainty.
