“Mike Conley, James Ennis, Chandler Parsons, JaMychal Green and Marc Gasol were on the floor for the opening tip. But the night belonged to Vince Carter. Yes, the 39-year-old ageless wonder, who made the game-winning assist to Gasol for the buzzer-beating basket.”

The old fella’ still has it. Carter had his first 20-point game in nearly two years on Tuesday and continues to be a solid player off the bench. He said during the summer that he wants to play at least two more seasons and if he can produce still, there’s no doubt teams would love to have him and the veteran presence he brings. On Tuesday night, he also joined another fellow Tar Heel in the history books.

Nuggets Mike Miller sees a star in new Grizzlies coach David Fizdale

“At this level it’s becoming that, it’s communicating with your players and obviously being organized. He’s going to take that same culture that was in Miami. He’s from the Pat Riley (coaching) tree, you know he’s going to be organized and prepared.”

More from Beale Street Bears

Mike Miller is high on David Fizdale. The two of them worked together during the LeBron era in Miami and Miller obviously enjoyed it. Coach Fizdale is starting to change the culture and offense of the team. Players have had nothing but positive things to say and expect him to be a fixture in Memphis for many seasons.

Should Tony Allen Be Starting?

“A deep dive into the numbers leaves us with this conclusion: that Tony does not deserve to start anymore, right? Well, that depends on what the other options are. Those options are Vince Carter (40, but actually playing well), Baldwin (statistically equal), Harrison (statistically equal), Daniels (statistically worse), or hope that Parsons comes back gunning from his injury and move James Ennis to the two.”

Well, Tony Allen has not been very helpful on the offensive end, but ChandlerParsons  hasn’t exactly come back ‘gunning it’ either. Many Grizzlies fans were clamoring for Harrison to be waived at one point and the potential of Mario Chalmers possibly re-signing could allow the Grizzlies to start him at the 2-spot. Tony Allen and Zach Randolph off the bench could provide that unit even more stability and Allen could be thrown back into the starting lineup when playing teams with two elite scoring guards, a la the Warriors, Blazers, Wizards and even Clippers.
