As we cover each player’s expectations for this series, there’s no one on the Memphis Grizzlies with more weight on his shoulders than Mike Conley.
Mike Conley has been huge down the stretch for the Memphis Grizzlies. If they want to advance, their floor general needs to step up. This team goes as far as he can carry them.
The Matchup
Tony Parker starts most games, but Patty Mills plays more minutes. Tony Parker is aging and won’t be able to stay in front of Conley. More than likely, the reigning Defensive Player of the Year, Kawhi Leonard, will serve as the primary defender. His length could cause problems for Mike, so
Dunking with Wolves
the Grizzlies need a lot of pick-and-roll action.
On the other end, Mike will need to bring his A-game to offset the absence of Tony Allen. Patty Mills is quick and aggressive with the ball in his hand. Mike has to be physical, but cautious, with him. Conley’s offense is too valuable to be on the bench with foul trouble.
Post Season Expectations
This has been a career year across the board for Mike Conley, but he can take his game to even greater heights this postseason. I’m expecting a 27/8/6 line throughout with efficient shooting percentages. His on-ball defense on Parker and Mills is a key for the Memphis Grizzlies. Both guards love attacking the paint, so Mike needs to use his speed to stay in front of them and make life harder for them. Expect a spirited effort from the Conductor.
