No. 5: Find Low-Value Players

With very little cap space, the Memphis Grizzlies should explore low-risk, low-value players. It’s what honestly got them where they are today.

Originally, they traded Darko Milicic for Quinten Richardson, who was then flipped for Zach Randolph. So essentially, it only cost the Grizzlies one Darko Milicic to land their franchise player. Who ended up with Darko? The Knicks. Like taking candy from a baby.

In addition, Tony Allen was signed to a 3-year, $9M contract in the summer of 2010. This signing was the definition of a “low-risk, low-value” move.

This offseason, the Grizzlies don’t have much money to work with. Therefore, they should look for similar situations.

Brandan Wright could end up on the trade block. If they don’t flip him for a pick in this year’s draft, they could flip him for a dynamic wing like Will Barton.

Some names that could potentially end up being low-risk, low-value players: Brandon Jennings, Tyreke Evans, Shaun Livingston or Omri Casspi.

In order to raise this team’s ceiling, Chris Wallace may have to go digging for diamonds in the rough.
