No. 4: Monitor Development

Grind City Media’s Mike Wallace announced that Wade Baldwin, Wayne Selden, Rade Zagorac, Jarell Martin and Deyonta Davis will all appear on the team’s Summer League roster. How they perform here could determine what their roles could entail next season.

Summer Leaguers

Wade Baldwin had a miserable rookie year, unable to get into a rhythm and flow. In the summer, he must be able to show the ability to lead a team with maturity and composure. His jump-shot also has to show signs of life. A Summer League takeover is all Baldwin needs to gain momentum going into next season.

Wayne Selden flashed “3-and-D” potential in the postseason. He also displayed his world-class athleticism. A full summer and another training camp could be what Selden needs in preparation for a larger role next season.

This summer will be Grizz fans’ first look at Rade Zagorac. It’ll also indicate whether he’ll be spending his regular season in Memphis or the G-League (have to get used to saying G-League).

Jarell Martin just finished his second season with the Grizzlies. However, it’ll be his time to participate in the annual summertime activities. A dominant showing and vast improvement here could help Martin secure a spot in the rotation. Otherwise, he could be on the outside looking in.

Finally, big man Deyonta Davis has the chance to flash his potential to be the future of the center position for the Grizzlies. If he can protect the rim well and play the post well enough, he could land a spot in the regular season rotation.

Not Playing in Summer League

Andrew Harrison, Troy Daniels and James Ennis aren’t playing in the summer league, but they should work on all-around consistency in order to find normal minutes in next year’s rotation.
