No. 3: Get Back Into the Draft

Many think that the Grizzlies need to stay out of this year’s draft. Even though they don’t have a draft pick, they still have a plethora of young guys. However, it’s the cheapest way to add talent.

The Grizzlies have little cap space, so trading into the second round could be a move they could afford to make. They have three second-round draft picks next season. They could simply package one of those picks and Brandan Wright to land a pick in the 30-40 range along with another player.

In recent years, second-round picks have helped teams thrive in the playoffs. This year, we’re witnessing guys like Norman Powell and Malcolm Brogdon contribute to playoff teams. Before them, it was Draymond Green and the Houston Rockets version of Chandler Parsons.

Josh Hart and Dillon Brooks are two guys that could potentially fall under that category. Or, if he slips, Luke Kennard would be the ideal target for this team.

It’s a move that simply doesn’t hurt the team. If the player isn’t ready for NBA minutes, ship him to the G-League. The Grizzlies are in need of young players and contributors. The second round is the cheapest, and possibly the best, option.
