This short offseason has already been wild. Paul George & Jimmy Butler rumors, David Griffin’s firing, the upcoming draft. The only problem is, the Grizzlies are on the outside looking in at a really fun party.

Reflecting on the Memphis Grizzlies’ past mistakes that led up to this point are fruitless. Hindsight is 20/20, so I say we look forward at what can be done, rather than what should have been done.

The Grizzlies shouldn’t have signed Chand…crap…

That’s my bad.

Let me try again. The Grizzlies have very limited options as far as trade chips go, so acquiring a superstar is out of the question. Paul George won’t take a pit stop in Memphis for one year just cause, which may also be the case for other high-quality players that are looking to contend for championships and/or a big payday. The Grizzlies don’t offer much in either of those aspects.

Awesome.

Grizz just wanna have fun

Justa wannaaaaa…..oooooohhhh Grizz just wanna have… fun.

What you know about Cyndi Lauper? Anyway, I know every Grizzlies fan is anxious for some news to break from Memphis. Tony Allen, Zach Randolph, Vince Carter and JaMychal Green are free agents, meaning something is bound to happen at some point regarding the Grizzlies. It may not be interesting, but sadly this does go back to the whole what if thing I said we should avoid.

I know many of you are thinking to yourselves: “Please Chris Wallace and Robert Pena, just give me something to hope for.” Truthfully, the best things the Grizzlies can hope for is a cheap JaMychal Green resigning and picking up a Brian Roberts or Sergio Rodriguez to help with second-unit scoring. Once again, this isn’t fun, but this is the Grizzlies after all. The team has been slowly fading while making ill-advised decisions.

Wow, it’s really hard to refrain from talking about mistakes when it comes to recent Grizzly history.

Options in free agency

The Memphis Grizzlies could pursue Nikola Mirotic, whose basically like Chandler Parsons but plays basketball. He’s a sharpshooter that loves to sit on the wing and go up for rebounds. Mirotic was subject to an absolute mess in Chicago, but he still managed to be a threat to whatever team was facing the Bulls. If Miro got hot, the opponent was subject to some pretty spectacular

shooting. He’s underrated, and the Grizzlies can afford him.

As far as the backcourt goes, I say go after Sergio Rodriguez. He’s a crafty point guard that thrives in the reserve role. He plays alongside T.J. McConnell on the 76ers, but the 31-year old would fit perfectly as the ball-handler for the Grizzlies’ second unit. He’s a pass-first guard but has a short fuse when it comes to shooting. If he hits his first shot, he will continue to shoot. He’s a fun player to watch and would immediately sway Memphis fans to his side within his first few minutes on the court.

This free agency has been hectic so check your sources, stand by your opinions and debate relentlessly. In the NBA offseason, speculation reigns supreme, and the takes are scorching.
