In a recent ESPN segment, Memphis Grizzly Vince Carter hinted that he’d be open to going to Golden State. Could the Grizz lose VC to a title contender?

Vince Carter appeared on ESPN’s “NBA: The Jump” the other day, and he revealed an opinion that should frighten every Memphis Grizzlies fan:

At the exit interviews, Vince Carter reiterated that he didn’t want to ride the bench just to win a championship. However, with plenty of Warriors entering the free agency, VC could find a spot in the rotation. Andre Iguodala could leave and command up to an annual salary of $20M from other teams. Shaun Livingston proved that he can stay healthy and should receive a bigger payday. Ian Clark will probably seek an expanded role – and more money.

As he reaches the end of his career, Carter could look for a spot where he could contribute to a title-contending team. He’s looking to add a championship ring to his Hall-of-Fame résumé, and going to a team like the Warriors helps his chances.

What It Means for the Grizzlies

This shouldn’t affect the Memphis Grizzlies too much. Like many players later in their career, Carter could pursue a championship. Barring a miracle, the Grizzlies aren’t the team that could fulfill his wish. Losing him, however, would be a big blow to the locker room. He’s proven to be an incredible locker room presence to the young players, showing them how to be a NBA player both on and off the court.

In saying this, they shouldn’t overpay for him. Even though he had a great season last year, Carter is 40 years old. He could still be a solid contributor on this team, but they also have to see what young wings like James Ennis and Rade Zagorac bring to the table.
