Memphis Grizzlies Free Agency News: Vince Carter to meet with Sacramento

LOS ANGELES, CA - NOVEMBER 16: Vince Carter

After big moves this weekend, the Memphis Grizzlies have remained quiet. However, that hasn’t stopped Vince Carter from taking any meetings. Could he end up with this unexpected team?

After the season, everyone assumed Vince Carter would leave the Memphis Grizzlies for a chance at a ring. On Sunday, ESPN’s Chris Hayes broke the news that the future Hall-of-Famer would be taking a meeting on Monday.

Who is this team? The Golden State Warriors? Nope. The Cleveland Cavaliers? Nah. San Antonio? Try again. IS HE GOING BACK TO TOR… No.

Vince Carter will be meeting with the Sacramento Kings. Shocker, right?

After trading away DeMarcus Cousins, the Kings are beginning their second rebuild of the past 14 years. They currently have seven first-round picks from both the 2016 and 2017 NBA drafts, so they definitely need some veteran guidance. What better person to learn from than “Half-Man, Half-Amazing” Vince Carter?

He’s been through absolutely everything in basketball from rebuilding projects to middling teams to title contenders. He’s also adjusted with the times to stay relevant. After being an elite scorer, he responded this decline in athleticism by becoming a 3-and-D specialist. Then, he accepted a bench role in order to stay around and contribute – even at 40 years old.

Former Grizzlies coach – and current Sacramento coach – Dave Joerger obviously loves Vince Carter. He raved about him in his last press conference in Memphis:

It’s hard to say whether or not Vince Carter will turn down a chance at a title for a reclamation project. While the Kings could offer more money, why would he want to finish his career on one of the league’s worst teams?

His reasoning remains unheard, but maybe he sees something in their young core. However, don’t be surprised if he, inevitably, chases his first NBA championship.
