News broke on Wednesday morning that the Memphis Grizzlies could trade Marc Gasol to the Celtics eventually. What trade packages would be the best?
The morning after the Fourth of July, the Memphis Grizzlies fanbase was upset. Long-time franchise cornerstone and fan favorite Zach Randolph moved out West for better weather and a bigger payday. Just when things couldn’t sound worse, it did. When discussing the Gordon Hayward signing, the Vertical’s Chris Mannix talked about a move that helps Boston’s title chances and signals rebuild in Memphis:
"The trade market for stars has momentarily dried up. One player worth keeping an eye on, two league executives told the Vertical: Memphis’ Marc Gasol. The Grizzlies lost Zach Randolph, Tony Allen could be next out the door, and if you were filling out your Western Conference bracket today, Memphis probably wouldn’t be in it. Would the Grizz move the 32-year-old Gasol for a ready-made rebuilding package of players and picks?"
If you’re a fan of either team, you’re revving up the trade machine. Losing Marc Gasol stings, but it could allow Memphis to integrate a breath of fresh air. In Boston, they could land a big man who could give them a legitimate shot to top LeBron.
As many are thinking of logical trades, let’s explore the different routes. Do they go completely young? Could they just acquire picks? Or, do they stay semi-competitive with a mix of players and some picks on hand?
Warning trade machine was never used, since matching salaries don’t matter as much in the offseason.
