Memphis Grizzlies: 5 Trades Involving Marc Gasol and the Boston Celtics
Revved up GNG
This trade would be a tough pill to swallow for Grizzly fans since a pick won’t be coming through, but Smart and Brown are two solid young players. Both players have the potential to reach All-Defense level while developing a strong offensive game.
Marcus Smart, aforementioned above, is a bulldog of a point guard and could be the guy to keep grit and grind alive. On the other hand, Jaylen Brown is the real gem from the trade. Given his size and defensive mentality, he could man either the 3 or 4 spot. Alongside Parsons, they’re interchangeable at the two forward positions.
If he develops a strong two-way game, his ceiling is Jimmy Butler. At the worst though, he’s a defensive specialist – a Michael Kidd-Gilchrist without the hideous jumper.
A Conley-Smart-Brown-Parsons-Wright starting 5 could win ball games. Granted, they might not be a playoff team, but it’s tough, regardless, in this upgraded Western Conference. However, they have the sneaky two-way potential to be a sleeper team in the West, which could force them to relinquish the 2019 pick as early as possible without sacrificing the future.
