There has been much uncertainty around the Grizzlies this off-season. A dose of Memphis familiarity may be just enough to calm everyone down.

Is that a home run I see?
Tyreke Evans played for the Memphis Tigers during the 2008-2009 season (the last year of some random coach that nobody liked) as he led them to the Sweet Sixteen. Though he was only in the city for one year, the people of Memphis still have fond memories of him. Hopefully, they’ll now have more fond memories to share in a Grizzlies uniform.
Though he has never quite lived up to his potential coming out of college, Tyreke Evans has been a very solid player his entire career. As rookie of the year for the 2009-10 season, he averaged 20.1 points, 5.8 assists and 5.5 rebounds per game. He has career averages of 16.1 points, 5.1 assists and 4.8 rebounds.
As a versatile wing, Evans could prove to be a major boost for the uncertain Grizzlies. At 6’6″, 220 pounds, he has the playmaking ability to play three positions. Though the Grizzlies have an abundance of young guards, “Too Easy” can play backup point guard and allow Mike Conley to play off the ball. Though he has struggled as a shooter, Evans can handle the ball and get to the rim with ease. Regardless of whether you have a great point guard or not, it always helps to have multiple ball handlers on the court, and Evans will certainly provide that.
The big question mark about Evans is his injury history. He has played in just sixty-five games over the last two seasons. Though he has still been a highly effective role player, injuries have also played a big part in keeping him from reaching his superstar potential. If Evans isn’t able to stay on the court, he could end up being a bust for the Grizzlies.
However, on a extremely cheap one-year, $3.3 million contract, Evans is a very low-risk, high-reward signing. If Evans plays like he did even in New Orleans, he’ll be a huge boost to the Grizzlies. Chris Wallace should be commended for finding Evans at the price that he did.
Conclusion

Memphis Grizzlies. His combination of playmaking, scoring, and size will be a huge boost to the Grizzlies’ backcourt. Though he carries injury concerns, his minuscule contract will not hurt if he doesn’t perform (the way a certain player who was signed last summer did).
Tyreke Evans has helped lead a Memphis team to postseason success before. Only time will tell if he can do it again.
