No. 8: Shane Battier’s Go-Ahead 3 Against the Spurs (April 17, 2011)

Shane Battier will always hold a special place in the heart of Memphis. He was a key player on the Grizzlies throughout the early to mid 2000s, and he finally got the chance to return during the 2010-2011 season. He was there for every one of the Grizzlies’ twelve playoff losses during that period.

It was only fitting that he hit the shot that would give the Grizzlies their first ever playoff win.

The importance of this shot can’t be understated. If Battier misses this shot, the Grizzlies likely lose game one of the 2011 series against the Spurs. They likely wouldn’t win the series. If this shot doesn’t go in, the entire history of “grit ‘n’ grind” is likely changed.

Sometimes, it takes the past to pave the way for the future. Shane Battier was a great example of this.
