Memphis Grizzlies: Top 10 Plays in Franchise History
No. 6: Lob For Lee (Nov. 13, 2014)
The Memphis Grizzlies certainly have a knack for this sort of thing. Also, Dave Joerger is incredibly good at calling plays out of timeouts.
This was a game the Grizzlies had no business in winning. They trailed by double digits at home for most of the game to an inferior Kings team. They finally mounted a rally in the fourth quarter behind the hot 3-point shooting of Vince Carter.
This play holds such a high place in Grizz history not just for how incredible it was, but also because of its controversy. The Kings claimed that Ryan “Booty-Call” Hollins tipped Vince Carter’s inbounds pass. With just 0.8 seconds remaining, the game would technically be over before Lee received the ball if this was true. However, the officials and the NBA determined that the ball wasn’t tipped, and everyone went home happy!
Well, except for the Sacramento Kings.
This play made the Kings so angry that they decided to take Zach Randolph and Vince Carter away from us nearly three years later.
