Another NBA superstar has entered the trade block. What’s new? Could the Memphis Grizzlies win the Kyrie Irving sweepstakes?

This summer has been absolutely wild for the NBA. Paul George is teaming up with Russell Westbrook. Houston has formed a dynamic backcourt in Chris Paul and James Harden. Jimmy Butler and Gordon Hayward are reunited with his former coaches. Then, when things couldn’t get crazier, Kyrie Irving sent shockwaves through the basketball stratosphere by requesting a trade.

Whenever a superstar player is on the block, it’s just a seventh sense – seeing dead people is obviously the sixth – to rev up the trade machine. You try to orchestrate a “brilliant” plan to put him on your favorite team. Then, you see where the trade was accepted and think “man, I can be a NBA GM. Piece of cake!”

For the Memphis Grizzlies, it’s quite difficult for them to land a superstar via trade. They lack the future draft picks and young assets to make an enticing package. However, Kyrie Irving may be the most somewhat realistic but not really that realistic superstar option for the Grizzlies.

So somewhat realistic but not really that realistic that people can talk about it on Twitter:

Trading for Kyrie Irving would surely be fascinating, and I’m all for it. However, I’m here to tell you that it won’t happen. Most of the Kyrie trade rumors include young players, and the Memphis Grizzlies lack intriguing prospects. If they want a trade, they’d have to move a cornerstone player -which may not make sense as well.

Who would the Grizzlies even trade to get Kyrie? Does it make sense for either team? Does it raise the Grizzlies’ ceiling any higher than it is now?
