The Memphis Grizzlies made a few hard decisions this summer, one including a decision Vince Carter’s free agency. Did the Grizz make the right call?

The Memphis Grizzlies, unfortunately, couldn’t keep Vince Carter this offseason. While he did provide the team with veteran leadership – and surprisingly good production for his age – they couldn’t afford the price to keep him.

The Sacramento Kings signed Vince Carter to a one-year deal where he’d receive $8M. While it’s sad that he went to join Zach Randolph and former coach Dave Joerger, the Grizzlies just couldn’t hand that much money to a 40-year old player. They have to look towards the future, and letting Vince walk was a move to do so.

As we grade the Memphis Grizzlies’ offseason decisions this summer, Parker Fleming (@PAKA_FLOCKA), Nathan Chester (@BigNateChester), Jake Finnen (@HalfCourtJester) and J.D. McMillian (@TheBackwardsDJ) share their thoughts on Vince Carter leaving.

Grade: A

Carter’s intangibles and leadership will be missed, but the Grizzlies are paying McLemore and Evans for the price of VC. Not a bad deal. — Parker Fleming

Vince Carter can do whatever he wants. It makes me happy knowing him and Zach Randolph are hanging out in Sacramento. The Grizzlies changed paths, and letting Randolph and Carter walk was probably the best thing for the future of all participating parties. — Jake Finnen

It’s hard to become a legend in a city in just three years, but Vince Carter found a way to do it. It was time for VC to provide his veteran leadership to another team – and probably play 20 more years while he’s at it. — Nathan Chester

Grade: B+

Letting Vince walk was tough because of the season he had for the Grizzlies last year. But for him, Sacramento may be the best place for him. With that young core, they needed great veterans, and they got those in Zach and Vince. While I’ll certainly miss Vince in a Grizz jersey, I’m glad I got to watch a NBA Hall of Famer wear a Grizzlies’ jersey. — J.D. McMillian
