Memphis Grizzlies: Revisiting Chandler Parsons Signing
By AJ Salah
Kent Bazemore – 4 yrs/$70 million
Bazemore brings an interesting scenario to the table. He timed his breakout season perfectly, teeming with upside in a spend-heavy summer where 3-and-D wings were an elite commodity.
Of course, he also plateaued at a very inconvenient time for the Hawks, inking a large deal before completely stalling all development. His shooting and defense both took steps back, while Taurean Prince and Tim Hardaway Jr ate up his minutes.

Bazemore’s regression can at least partially be blamed on Atlanta’s system crumbling around him. However abstract that valuation, he’s clearly a streaky player who benefitted from the constant ball movement he was immersed in.
How well he would’ve translated to Memphis is a sketchy proposition. The Grizzlies ranked in the NBA’s bottom half last year in adjusted assists, and finished behind the Hawks in passes per game.
In any event, his athleticism offered a wide canvas of potential value for Memphis, and his contract still is both cheaper and more salvageable than Parsons’ deal.
