As we predict this year’s award winners, let’s see who could win the NBA Coach of the Year award. Could David Fizdale be a dark-house contender?

In the NBA, there are plenty of awards that are eye-opening and entertaining. The MVP award is obviously the prized possession. In such race, we’re seeing the league’s best just dominate their inferior opponents — one of the best things to witness in basketball. The Most Improved Player award is entertaining, since it usually entails a young stud blossoming and realizing their own potential. With the Rookie of the Year award, we get a small glimpse of the NBA’s future.

One award though that flies under the radar is Coach of the Year. The fans truly don’t appreciate the guys who are in contention for this award. They’re the true masterminds behind success. While the players produce the results, the man in the suit is the one who positions them to maximize their potential.

Steve Kerr is a prime example. Before he came, the Warriors were a rising, young team predicated on defense. However, once Kerr came in, he kept the defensive mentality but unlocked an offensive combination that quickly became a historically great team. He transformed Steph Curry into a bonafide MVP candidate and an all-time great. Then, a small David Lee injury unleashed Draymond Green, a two-way human wrecking ball and one of the few players that resembles fellow Spartan Magic Johnson.

The players obviously catch the attention and draw the ratings, but let’s focus on the men in the suits for a minute.

As the season approaches, who’s in contention for the Coach of the Year award? Could Memphis Grizzlies’ coach David Fizdale be in the running?
