The Memphis Grizzlies’ Core Four era is done, and now they need some new fan favorites around Mike Conley and Marc Gasol. Who can arise out of the pack?

Zach Randolph and Tony Allen captured the hearts of the fans. With every jab-step, rebound, steal and post-play antics, the fans absolutely melted. They were such captivating players both on and off the court. Now that they’re gone, the Memphis Grizzlies will continue to honor them with giveaways when they come to town.

It’s a nice gesture, but the Grizzlies need some new fan favorites to emerge. Marc Gasol and Mike Conley will always be there, but the fans need someone else to get behind. Someone that can captivate the fans and make this team more exciting.

There’s just a lot of fresh faces and question marks, and someone needs to become an exclamation mark.

Who can arise from the pack to become the next big Grizz fan favorite?

Familiar faces

  • Mario Chalmers

This solely depends on how he looks this preseason and if he makes the team. Fans weren’t happy when the Grizzlies first picked him up (see: 2008 national championship), but an exciting debut changed their minds real quick. If he can re-capture the magic from his first run with Memphis, Chalmers could quickly become the fan favorite in Memphis.

  • Tyreke Evans

The former University of Memphis Tiger is an easy candidate … if he can stay healthy. He possesses one of the nastiest crossovers in the game, which makes any player exciting. If he’s anything like his old self, he’ll be a main staple for this team and a fan favorite real quick.

  • Brandan Wright

There’s a lot to like about Brandan Wright. He’s a soft-spoken, low-maintenance player who just plays the game the right way. Not to mention, he can also catch alley-oops and make big-time blocks, so that’s fun.

Young players

  • Wayne Selden

The fans somewhat fell in love with Wayne Selden after his Summer League performance. A strong showing this season will make him a quick fan favorite. He’s a dynamic, explosive athlete who can rise up for a “Dunk of the Year” candidate real quick.

  • Dillon Brooks

Dillon Brooks was an absolute beast at Oregon, and he’s an intriguing candidate for “second-round surprise.” He plays with a certain edge and competitiveness that’s enticing. If he can find a spot in the rotation, you best believe he’s going to ball out.

Redemption?

  • Chandler Parsons

Wouldn’t this be the perfect redemption story?

After receiving a massive contract last summer, Parsons was dubbed the “missing piece” for this Memphis Grizzlies team. However, he was derailed by injuries, and the fans weren’t happy. Not to mention, fans didn’t like his night life, dating life and All-Star break vacations. Honestly, he might be the least favorite player for many players.

If he can bounce back on the court and stay low-key off the court, Parsons can win some fans back over. He worked his tail off all offseason, and fans should recognize it.

Since the front office envisions a Big 3 of Parsons, Conley and Gasol, they need the third fiddle at his best.
