The Memphis Grizzlies are thin at the power forward position. Training camp invitee and two-way player Vince Hunter could rise to the occasion.

In case you haven’t seen yet, the Memphis Grizzlies are thin at the power forward position. After JaMychal Green, they have Jarell Martin — who may not even start the season on the team — and rookie Ivan Rabb. Aside from them, they have a plethora of wings who could play the 4 position.

If Green goes down, the Grizzlies don’t have any legitimate options for the starting power forward spot. If Rabb or Martin aren’t cutting it, they might need another power forward on the roster. Luckily, they have one more two-way spot occupied by a big man, Vince Hunter.

The two-way player will spend more time with the Hustle obviously, but he can quickly earn the Grizzlies’ favor. Hunter can drive past opposing big men. He has a bouncy game and uses it to explode to the basket off the pick-and-roll. Because of his explosiveness and ball-handling, he’d be perfect in the team’s faster second unit.

In the Summer League, he also flashed the ability to clean the glass (four rebounds in 19.4 minutes per game) and to protect the rim (one block per game).

He was a member of the Grizzlies’ training camp roster last season and the D-League team this past year, so he’s familiar with the system. If things go awry at the power forward position, they should call on Vince Hunter.

The Memphis Grizzlies have had poor luck drafting these past few years, and they need to make smart signings like Vince Hunter for the team’s future. He doesn’t have the highest ceiling, but he can be a solid role player for years to come.
