A trade will happen

I dont know where. I dont know when, but a trade will happen. The Memphis Grizzlies are throwing together a last ditch effort for a championship push in THE most lopsided conference in recent memory. There are only two, possibly three teams in rebuild mode: the Kings, Suns, and the “possibly” team is the Mavericks. The Mavericks finished with a solid record and didn’t really change their roster outside of adding Dennis Smith Jr this offseason, so they deserve the label, possibly.

Regardless of actual talent, the Lakers made offseason acquisitions that in no way make them contenders, but it definitely has them point in the championship direction. With that being said, this leaves us with the Grizzlies as the odd-team out as far as talent and potential. Agree or disagree, as a Grizzly fan, NBA-fan or a mix of both, you know the Grizzlies season is dependent on A TON of hopefuls. Many of those hopes revolving around this phrase: ”As long as ____ stays healthy, we could be good.”

I wouldn’t necessarily call that horrible, but it definitely doesn’t look good as far as the near future is concerned. Recently, the Grizzlies have been a team that surprises everyone. Also recently, the Grizzlies decided to part ways with core veterans that dictated a culture. Now before you ask why this is being brought up, think about the makeup of this team. Gasol and Conley are passive players in their own spectacular ways, while Tyreke Evans uses his bulldozing playmaker mentality to help create a solid trifecta of playmaking, covering any type of facilitating the Grizzlies might need.

But who will take over as the scorer? Who else can the Grizzlies count on to bring a 15-20 point performance every night. This is the problem the Grizzlies will run into, and it’ll also be the wedge that separates them. The Grizzlies might be fun to watch in spurts, but after the losses start to pile up, look for them to have a basket full of goodies that contending teams will love to choose from. — Jake Finnen (@HalfCourtJester)
